Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely researched and clinically validated forms of psychotherapy available. It is a practical, structured approach that helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours — and develop skills to change patterns that are getting in the way of living well.

Vivien Suttner offers CBT at her Newtown practice in Sydney's Inner West and via telehealth for clients across NSW. She also sees clients from the Eastern Suburbs, North Shore, Parramatta and Western Sydney. Many people come to CBT when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in ways of thinking and responding they know are not serving them.

Many people seek CBT when they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or caught in unhelpful patterns of thinking. CBT can be helpful for a range of difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry.

  • Low mood or depression.

  • Stress and burnout.

  • Negative self-talk or self-criticism.

  • Difficulty managing emotions.

  • Relationship or communication difficulties.

  • Problems with confidence or self-esteem.

CBT focuses on helping people notice the patterns in how they think and respond - and then developing practical strategies to manage challenges more effectively. Therapy is collaborative and goal-focused. Vivien works alongside clients to identify specific goals, build useful skills and review progress over time. Between sessions, practical exercises help apply what is being learned in everyday life which is often where the most meaningful change happens.

What to Expect from CBT with Vivien Suttner

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at 360 Psychology is tailored to each individual rather than following a rigid protocol. Vivien draws on a broad range of evidence-based CBT techniques, selecting those most suited to the presenting difficulty and the person's goals. The number of sessions varies depending on the nature and complexity of the difficulty, and is discussed openly from the outset. Sessions are available in person at the Newtown clinic and via telehealth across NSW. Medicare rebates may apply for eligible clients who hold a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from their GP, covering up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year under the Better Access initiative.
