Interpersonal & Insight-Oriented Therapy

Offered by Vivien Suttner, clinical psychologist in Newtown, this approach focuses on your current relationships while also exploring the deeper patterns that shape them. Together, we look at how earlier experiences and attachment styles may be influencing how you see yourself, what you expect from others, and how you respond in close relationships.

Often, these patterns operate outside of awareness and can lead to feeling stuck in familiar relational cycles. By gently bringing them into focus, therapy creates the opportunity to better understand your emotional world and the ways you connect with others.

This therapy is particularly well-suited to those experiencing relationship difficulties, grief, life transitions, low self-esteem, depression, or a recurring sense of disconnection from others.

Alongside this insight, we work on navigating present-day relationship challenges — such as communication, conflict, loss, or life transitions — supporting you to develop more flexible, secure, and authentic ways of relating. Over time, this can lead to more meaningful, satisfying connections and a stronger sense of self.

Who Is This Approach For?

This therapy may be a good fit if you find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling to feel truly close to others, or navigating a significant life transition such as separation, loss or a major life change. It can also be helpful if you experience persistent feelings of anxiety, low mood or low self-worth that seem connected to your relationships or early experiences.

You don't need to have a clear sense of what's wrong or why you feel the way you do. Often, people come to this work simply feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure of themselves in close relationships, and that is a perfectly good place to start.
